As part of our charitable work programme we are committed to helping thousands of people in the local community have access to affordable transport. Our first step in 2020 is to offer over 200 bicycles away to good causes, starting with the first ten being gifted to a York primary school, Clifton Green. We have also donated a brand new bicycle to a student at Westfield primary school back in January this year. Not to mention pledging 162 bikes to key NHS workers during the covid-19 outbreak check out the BBC Look North coverage of the giveaway.

Countless bicycles are discarded or sit gathering rust and dust in gardens and garages. A bicycle can truly change the life of an individual and their community. cycling is, of course, a form of transportation. In some developing countries bicycles are used for towing cargo, and even as a source of electricity through the creation of pedal powered machines! High levels of unemployment and lack of reliable, affordable transportation in poverty stricken countries is a massive issue, and something as simple as providing a bicycle can help provide access to jobs, education, medical attention, and other resources. Recycle York is proud to ship thousands of bicycles each year to our contacts throughout Africa who can use these bicycles to change lives.. Help us keep up the good work and donate your old bike instead of taking it to the tip.
